Midsize trucks are supposed to be good at this sort of thing, but a Hilux owner in Australia went looking for the outer edge of “supposed to.” He aimed the dual-cab down a near-vertical mud embankment with a camper trailer still hitched to the back.
The clip came from @ghostx, a paraplegic off-road enthusiast who goes by Dan. His modified 2024 Toyota Hilux is taking on Gunshot Creek, one of the more feared obstacles on the Old Telegraph Track in Cape York, Queensland.

The video opens with the silver truck parked at the lip of the drop, nose pointed at a mud rut below. It wears a steel bumper, a snorkel, and wide fenders with tubular protection. Bigger wheels, mud-terrain rubber, and a lifted suspension round out the hardware, though the 2.8-liter turbodiesel is untouched.
The rear bed is loaded with recovery gear and equipment, with a modified camper trailer hitched behind the truck.
Most owners would find another line. Dan didn’t, and the run makes the case that nerve, technique, and the right modifications will get you further than any of the three alone. He crept over the edge without pausing and let gravity handle the rest.

As the nose of the Hilux dips into the mud and despite the extreme angle, the truck maintains traction and lateral stability. The trailer behind it follows the same path without jackknifing or tipping, proving the effectiveness of the hitch setup.
Anyone watching was holding their breath until the landing. What they got was a clean example of controlled off-road driving in conditions that punish hesitation.
Judging from Dan’s profile on Instagram and YouTube, he is quite experienced in off-road adventures. However, as he admits in an earlier post: “Cape York has a way of keeping you humble. Every crossing is different, every season changes the track, and one mistake can turn an adventure into an expensive recovery.“
