75 Years in the Making
While the Toyota Land Cruiser nameplate was introduced in 1954, the off-road vehicle itself debuted in 1951 as the Toyota Jeep BJ. However, because Willys-Overland held the trademark rights to the Jeep name, Toyota renamed the vehicle the Land Cruiser. This means the iconic off-roader is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and the Japanese automaker is marking the milestone with a special edition limited to just 75 units, at least for German buyers.
The 75th Anniversary Edition is based on the Land Cruiser 250 and features round headlights, much like the U.S.-market Land Cruiser 1958. What makes this limited edition even more special is that it comes with additional off-road equipment typically found on the higher-end Land Cruiser trim, which features rectangular headlights. This means buyers who prefer the retro styling can also enjoy enhanced off-road capabilities.

Underneath the Retro Charm
Unlike the U.S.-spec Land Cruiser 1958, the 75th Anniversary Edition comes with a Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM) and a Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM). The SDM is an electronically controlled feature that disconnects the front sway bar, increasing wheel articulation that’s ideal for uneven terrain. Meanwhile, MTM provides drivers with real-time views of the front, sides, rear, and area beneath the vehicle, which is handy when maneuvering over rocks, mud, and tight obstacles.
The 75th Anniversary Edition is also available in the new and exclusive Smoky Blue paint, though customers can opt for Super White, Sand, Avantgarde Bronze, Aura Black, Dark Grey, and Platinum White. Moreover, the vehicles come with 75th Anniversary badges, while customers receive collectible extras, including a 1:60-scale Tomica Land Cruiser, a handmade keychain, a commemorative enamel sign, and a Land Cruiser history book.
Another major difference between the American and German Land Cruisers is the powertrain. While the U.S.-spec Land Cruiser uses a more powerful 2.4-liter i-Force Max hybrid powertrain with 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, the German-spec model gets a 2.8-liter turbodiesel paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, producing 202 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both versions come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and full-time 4WD.

A Pricey Birthday Celebration
The 75th Anniversary Edition starts at 84,750 euros, or about $95,100 at current exchange rates. A separate, more luxury-oriented trim called Lounge is also available for 91,990 euros, or about $103,300.
It is unclear whether Toyota will introduce a 75th Anniversary Edition for America. For now, the U.S.-market Land Cruiser has received updates for the 2027 model year as it continues to compete against the likes of the Jeep Wrangler. The Land Cruiser 1958 starts at $58,180, excluding destination charges, while the higher-end model starts at $64,255. It sold 26,697 units in the U.S. during the first nine months of this year, a 24% decline compared to the same period in 2025.
