- A new Jeep Compass is reportedly under development for South America.
- It could retain the old FCA Small Wide platform with Leapmotor EREV tech.
- Design and tech will reportedly mirror the European STLA Medium model.
Stellantis introduced the third generation of the Jeep Compass in 2025, but so far only Europeans can actually buy one, with the North American launch pushed back. Now a new report out of South America suggests Jeep is cooking up yet another Compass for that region, pairing familiar underpinnings with fresh styling and electrified tech borrowed from Chinese partner Leapmotor.

Jeep currently produces the South American Compass and Commander SUVs at the Goiana Assembly Complex in Pernambuco, Brazil. According to CNN Brazil, that same plant could churn out the new Compass, with a debut penciled in for 2028.
Familiar Bones Underneath

Unlike the European-spec Compass, which moved to the newer STLA Medium architecture, the South American version will reportedly stay on the FCA Small Wide platform to sidestep the cost of retooling. Those bones already underpin the second-gen Compass, the Commander, the Ram Rampage, and the Alfa Romeo Tonale / Dodge Hornet pair.
While the structure remains basically the same, insider sources suggest that the exterior design, cabin layout, safety systems, and digital features will closely mirror the European-spec Compass. This points to more angular surfacing, modern LEDs, and larger screens inside the cabin.
What Could Power It

The bigger news is under the hood, where South American buyers get new electrified options. One is said to be an evolution of the bi-fuel 1.3-liter Turbo Flex engine, paired with a 48V mild hybrid setup that tucks an electric motor into the dual-clutch transmission.

There’s also talk of a range-extender option drawing on tech from Chinese partner Leapmotor. That one would use a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter bi-fuel engine as a generator while electric motors handle the driving. The same report says that Goiana is already being upgraded to assemble the Leapmotor B10 and C10 SUVs locally, which makes the parts-sharing theory look a lot less far-fetched.
More should surface about the South American Compass over the coming months. North America will get the STLA Medium model eventually, though a launch date remains a mystery. Stellantis has moved production from Brampton in Canada to the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois. The European Compass, for its part, comes out of the Melfi plant in Italy.
