Ford has officially revealed the name of its upcoming midsize electric pickup, confirming that the new EV truck will be called the Ford Fathom. The automaker says the name was chosen to reflect the truck’s versatility, explaining that it “had to capture a mindset, shifting the focus from specs to a spirit of adaptability.”
The Ford Fathom will ride on Ford’s new Universal EV platform, which is designed to underpin a new family of affordable electric vehicles. Ford plans to begin taking orders for the Fathom electric truck in early 2027, with the standard-range model starting at $28,350 before destination and options.
In addition to its competitive starting price, Ford says the Fathom will offer more passenger space than the Toyota RAV4, giving buyers SUV-like interior room in a midsize pickup. The cabin will also feature a large high-resolution touchscreen, digital key functionality, Apple Maps integration and BlueCruise hands-free driving compatibility.
Practicality is also a key focus for the new Ford EV truck. The Fathom will include a front trunk (frunk) for additional cargo storage and bidirectional power capability, allowing owners to power tools, appliances or even provide backup power when needed.
