It wasn’t hard to see this coming, and we reported on it seven months ago – the possibility that Toyota would outsell General Motors to take the No.1 market share spot. A non-American automaker has outsold a domestic only one time in the entirety of the modern auto industry: Toyota clipped GM during the COVID-19 pandemic when supply chain issues were hurting everyone. If it happens this year, there are no such excuses to fall back on.
