Mystical Collection
The world is filled with very well-off car collectors; some of the biggest collections belong to people like Jay Leno, who is more than willing to share his extensive catalog of prized automobiles. However, there are some major collections that are shrouded in mystery, from very elusive owners.
One of these collections is the Sultan of Brunei’s; an almost mystical and mythical level of lore has always been associated with this particular collection. Nobody has ever publicized the whole collection, but some cars have actually escaped. One car that was once a captive of the collection is now up for sale, and the lore might just be worth the buy.

Sultan’s Jaguar XJ220
Listed now on Pistonheads is a 1992 Jaguar XJ220 once owned by the Sultan of Brunei for $740,000 (converted). The ’80s and the early ’90s were an interesting time for supercars; it seemed that every major manufacturer saw the potential in the segment and released their own. Jaguar first showed a concept of the car at the 1988 British Motor Show, and production was signed off on by December of 1989. To help produce the car, Jaguar teamed up with TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing).
The Jaguar XJ220’s iconic space-age design was penned by Keith Helfet. The car itself was powered by a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V6 that made 542 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. Shifting was done through a 5-speed manual transmission supported by an AP Racing twin-clutch system. AP Racing was also responsible for the braking system of the XJ220. It was built by hand in Bloxham, Oxfordshire, with the first production model completed in June of 1992 with a retail price of around $600,000.

Post Captivity
This particular model was purchased by the Sultan of Brunei, but made its way back to the UK. It has since been serviced by Jaguar Cars at Browns Lane; in fact, it was first registered in 2002, and it has a total mileage of just 2,646 miles. The most recent owner bought the car in 2018 and has been meticulously maintained by Jaguar Classic. It is a right-hand drive car, built and finished in Spa Silver with a Smoke Grey Connolly leather interior.
