Manual transmissions are rare enough, and take rates as high as the Subaru WRX’s are even rarer. Subaru’s three-pedal, four-door, AWD-equipped performance sedan has one of the highest manual take rates on the scene, and the near-extinction of the stick shift itself might just be helping Subaru move more manuals into more driveways, too. Exhibit A comes right from the two-door Subaru BRZ: where 9 in 10 shoppers choose the stick. The WRX comes close to that mark with a manual take rate of around 86 percent in recent years, per Motor1.com. Below, we’ll look at what’s behind the continuous success of the three-pedal WRX option.
