The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is set to reach U.S. dealerships before the end of the year. An all-new generation of the full-size pickup, it will once again be positioned as a more luxurious and upscale alternative to the Chevrolet Silverado. The new Sierra is packed with class-leading technologies, and one of them is an advanced camera system that provides drivers with an unrivaled level of visibility. Be it parking this behemoth or navigating tight off-road trails, this camera system has been newly detailed by the automaker this week. Here’s a closer look at how it all works.

Visibility over one’s surroundings can be a challenge in a full-size pickup. Tall hoods and bodies stretching beyond 230 inches (for the Sierra Crew Cab) can make maneuverability an issue in tighter spots. To help with this, GMC has introduced the most comprehensive camera system we’ve yet seen in a pickup. Fully optioned, the system offers 19 different camera views, giving the driver not just a 360-degree view, but even a look at what’s happening behind a trailer or underneath the truck. GMC is particularly proud of the Sierra’s first-in-class front/rear underbody cameras, allowing drivers to spot potentially damaging obstacles or debris. Both these cameras have wash functions to clear mud from the lenses, ensuring the driver’s view isn’t impeded. Cabin Glance is a newly introduced camera view for the pickup, too.
To make it easier to keep track of the various camera views, all 2027 Sierras come with a standard 16.3-inch touchscreen. That’s in addition to a 12.2-inch digital driver’s display.
Rivals from Ram and Ford also offer 360-degree camera systems, while Ford’s F-150 also shows a view of the bed and can be equipped with a trailer auxiliary camera. These systems are not as comprehensive as the GMC’s, though.

2027 Sierra Has Class-Leading Power, Too

Along with an impressive technology suite, the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 also raises the bar with its new engine lineup. The base 2.7-liter four-cylinder TurboMax now makes 350 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque; that’s a class-best standard torque figure, even when matched up against V6 rivals.
Buyers looking for old-school V8 power without electrification or turbocharging will be best served by the new 6.6-liter Small Block V8, which makes 481 hp and 501 lb-ft. Not only is it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the segment, but it’s GMC’s most powerful half-ton V8 ever. There’s also a 402-hp V8 and a turbodiesel with 495 lb-ft and a highway range of over 900 miles.

From the advanced infotainment and safety tech to the brawny engine lineup, the new Sierra has mounted a serious challenge to the best-selling Ford F-150.
