The Tesla Model 3 is about to receive one of its biggest updates since the “Project Highland” model introduced in 2023. Still the second-best-selling EV in the U.S.—behind only the Model Y crossover—the Model 3’s performance, efficiency, and reasonable starting price have kept demand high. The latest upgrades are notable and include a larger touchscreen, new interior colors, and vehicle-to-load capability. The only bad news? American Tesla fans won’t have access to these features first.

According to a Tesla Korea post on social media site X, Model 3 sedans produced from October 2026 will be delivered with a range of upgrades. These Teslas are produced at the automaker’s Giga Shanghai plant, so customers in markets like Europe will also receive the updates, which include the following:
- 16-inch center touchscreen with enhanced pixel density
- Black headliner
- V2L functionality
- New Zen Grey upholstery color
- 19-inch Dark Nova wheels

Current Model 3 sedans sold in the U.S. have a slightly smaller 15.4-inch touchscreen display, and while they’re available with 19-inch Nova wheels, these have a lighter finish. The Model 3’s current touchscreen is already excellent, so the new one should be even better for watching videos or gaming.
The V2L system is perhaps the main update, as its 2.2-kW of AC power will allow it to run a kettle or similar cooking device, making it an ideal companion for a camping trip. The Model Y L is already offered in the U.S. with an outlet adapter that can power devices like lights and laptops.

What It Means
Tesla has finally launched the black headliner for the Model 3!
As usual, it looks like it will start in China first, then make its way to the US. Looks amazing! pic.twitter.com/RbpXqBGifr

Tesla typically introduces cosmetic and tech improvements for Shanghai-built models first. If it’s a software update, these changes can reach U.S.-built Teslas quite quickly, but the latest updates are hardware-related, so customers here could find themselves waiting a good few months for the new equipment.
Tesla Model 3s sold in the U.S. are currently produced at the manufacturer’s Fremont Factory in Fremont, California. It’s unlikely that the V2L and touchscreen improvements will be reserved for Shanghai-built cars, so anyone interested in a Model 3 might want to wait it out to get the latest tech.
Next year will mark a full decade since the Model 3 first went into production, before it became the top-selling EV in the world (before the Model Y took over). Regular software updates, one significant facelift, and the newly announced hardware enhancements have kept the Model 3 feeling fresh, especially as new rivals like the BMW i3 start to make their presence felt on the sales charts.
