Reborn Mitsubishi Pajero Drops Final Teaser Hours Before Big Reveal

Mitsubishi is ready to unveil the much-anticipated fifth-generation Pajero, with a final teaser dropping hours before its official world premiere. The flagship SUV will have a ladder-frame architecture and cross-country capabilities, targeting to rival heavyweights like the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol.

The new teaser gives us a closer look at the exterior of the Pajero. Highlights include the headlights with DRLs that extend on the front bumper and a full-width LED bar, as well as the Pajero lettering on the side gills and the tailgate. The latter will likely be replaced with Montero lettering in certain export markets.

Earlier teasers confirmed the return of the dashboard-mounted Triple Multi Meter from previous generations, albeit in the form of digital dials dedicated to off-road telemetry. Furthermore, during customer previews, the company hinted at high-quality materials, saddle-colored perforated leather upholstery with black inserts, and the latest comfort and technology features.

Under the boxy silhouette, Mitsubishi has confirmed that the off-roader utilizes a robust ladder-frame architecture derived from the Triton pickup. However, the Pajero will adopt model-specific chassis and suspension setups.

We also know that the SUV will be equipped with the Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. This enhances traction and handling with selectable drive modes tailored for different kinds of challenging terrains.

While Mitsubishi is keeping its cards close to its chest about what lies under the hood, chances are the Pajero will inherit the 2.4-liter biturbo four-cylinder diesel engine from the Triton. Later in the product cycle, we expect electrified powertrain options that will allow the SUV to cover a wider spectrum of the market and remain compatible with strict emission regulations in certain regions.

All of our questions for the new Mitsubishi Pajero will be answered during its global unveiling on September 2. The model will be manufactured in Thailand and has been confirmed for global markets including Australia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. However, no decision has been made regarding a U.S. launch that might follow later in the decade.

Furthermore, the Pajero nameplate is expected to grow into a family of models including a kei-sized offering and a compact SUV.
