There’s little doubt that the Volkswagen Golf GTI represents an archetypal hot hatch experience. For generations, it’s been the go-to vehicle for those who are looking for a strong engine, front-wheel-drive fun, a practical hatchback, and just the right amount of challenge. But for those who may want something a little more unruly and not necessarily as refined, other hot hatches come to mind. And from the turn of the century, the Saab 9-3 Viggen was one of the wildest. Bigger, faster, and more torque-heavy than the GTI, it could certainly remind an ambitious driver of who was really in charge.
