The Mustang Gets Another Set of Doors
Apart from the previously reported $25,000 SUV, Ford has also shown dealers something considerably more interesting: an upcoming four-door Mustang. The prototype reportedly appeared during a dealer meeting in Las Vegas attended by Ford Executive Chair Bill Ford and CEO Jim Farley.
Whispers about a Mustang sedan have been floating for years, but this is the clearest sign yet that Ford might actually be crazy enough to build one. Of course, nothing is set in stone – car companies love to change their minds when the market gets weird, so don’t go placing your bets just yet.
A Mustang Sedan for Less Than $40,000?
If this thing actually makes it to showrooms, Ford doesn’t seem interested in turning it into a wallet-busting Euro-sedan rival. Automotive News says Ford rolled out an early prototype in Vegas and let dealers get up close. The verdict? Some folks, who wished to stay anonymous for obvious reasons, say it looks a bit like a Porsche Panamera – not a comparison we expected to hear in a Mustang story, but here we are.
But here’s where things get really interesting: Ford execs apparently told dealers the four-door Mustang would start under $40,000. They’re also aiming for a 0-60 time under four seconds and more rear-seat space than a Panamera.
That’s a weird combo, honestly. A Mustang-shaped sedan that’s quick and (relatively) affordable? Ford would be carving out a corner of the market with almost no competition – at least until Chevy decides to crash the party with a Camaro sedan of its own.

What Else Do We Know So Far
As for when you might actually see one, that’s still anyone’s guess. One dealer told the Detroit Free Press Ford is aiming for the end of the decade, but whether that means 2028 or 2029 is still up in the air.
Design-wise, the dealer who got a peek says it looks a lot like today’s Mustang, just stretched into a proper sedan. So Ford isn’t just bolting two extra doors onto the coupe and calling it done – they’re actually putting in the work.
What’s under the hood? That’s still a mystery. The Wall Street Journal says a couple of sources claim the four-door Mustang will be a hybrid, and one even mentioned a hybrid V8. That would be a wild move for Ford as it tries to blend electrification with Mustang muscle.
And then there’s the name game. Ford just filed a trademark for ‘Mach 4’ covering both gas and electric cars. They haven’t said it’s for the four-door Mustang, but the timing is a little too perfect to ignore.
