General Motors has a very intriguing history with electrification in vehicles. The company beat everyone to the punch with the EV1, which launched 30 years ago as the first mass-produced modern battery-electric vehicle from a major automaker. The company then pushed ahead with hybrids and more EVs, again, well ahead of the competition. The first Chevrolet Silverado hybrid actually launched in 2005, but GM simply abandoned the segment around the same time it abandoned sedans and small cars.
