One of the Few in Japan
American cars aren’t a big deal in Japan, although some models are sold there; the appeal is mostly in niche products like Jeeps or sports cars like the Corvette. Another niche segment that one American car maker competes in is luxury, and you already know that’s Cadillac.
For those who don’t know, America’s definition of premium SUV mobility, the Cadillac Escalade, is actually sold in Japan. More recently, Cadillac Japan announced a special edition that will be sold only in its local market.

Noir Edition
Just launched by General Motors Japan, with its President and CEO, Itaru Wakamatsu, is the special edition, Cadillac Escalade Noir Edition. As we know, Noir means black, and that’s the overall theme of this Escalade, turning it into a stealthy, menacing SUV. Its main exterior detail is the matte black XPEL Stealth PPF, which the brand claims gives it an elegant sheen. Since it’s PPF, the whole thing is scratch-resistant and easy to maintain. Cadillac also added XPEL’s patented PPF on the hood, body sides, and rear tailgate.
Other exterior panels, like the front grille, were finished in gloss black to contrast the flatter shine of the matte panels. The exterior also features a new 22-inch 18-spoke rim design finished in midnight aluminum. Cadillac says the overall exterior finish exudes strength and beauty. Inside, the Escalade continues the blacked-out motif but adds a contrasting wood-grain panel. The interior includes exclusive Noir Edition trims and features, like an exclusive “ornament” on the passenger side. It also has Noir Edition floor mats, with a limited-edition nameplate and silver-colored piping.

Familiar Performance
The Cadillac Escalade Noir Edition is now available in Japanese dealerships for 21,000,000 Japanese Yen ($133,000). It will also be limited to just 20 units, making it truly special.
The Noir Edition remains basically the same in performance and features. The Escalade in Japan still rides on the brand’s Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, Magnetic Ride Control, and GM’s much-loved 6.2-liter V8 engine. The Escalade still has the massive 55-inch curved LED display, AKG in-car surround system, and the tablet-sized command center.
