When the redesigned fifth-generation BMW X5 made its debut in the summer, one much-loved feature of past X5s was noticeably missing: the two-piece tailgate. The flat-folding lower section made loading bulky items easier, as you could just slide them in like you would in a pickup truck, but it also doubled as a seat, adding an extra serving of practicality to the midsize luxury SUV.
