Mini has been under pressure in Europe from the relentless competition in the supermini space. Having an all-electric version hasn’t helped with Renault and Fiat competing on price and range, and that’s before Volkswagen, Cupra, and Kia elbowed their way into the electric supermini market. Add the Chinese brands BYD and Geely to the mix, and it’s clear Mini needs to change the game with the next Mini Cooper. And that could mean doing something that Mini purists might consider unthinkable.
