The price of Slate Auto’s upcoming all-electric pickup is one of its most anticipated details, as it could become the most affordable EV in the U.S., undercutting the Nissan Leaf and the limited-run Chevrolet Bolt EV. One reader who goes by Dave apparently took matters into their own hands by spotting pricing information in the source code of Slate Auto’s website and sharing it with The Autopian.
The pricing information reportedly read: “The Slate Truck has all the essentials for the CONFIDENTIAL price of $24,950 (reminder: we’re all still under NDA and prohibited from sharing this).” Another tipster also sent the publication a screenshot showing the same $24,950 price on a page that has since been deleted from the company’s website.

The Budget EV Sweet Spot
Both details line up with early expectations of a mid-$20,000 price point, which, by the way, sounded even sweeter when the now-discontinued $7,500 federal EV tax credit could have brought it below $20,000. Still, it offers some level of reassurance, especially since the company has been setting expectations for a roughly $25,000 truck without officially locking in the final price.
It is worth noting, however, that Ford is also set to enter the affordable EV truck segment with a $30,000 model underpinned by its Universal EV Platform. Going above the $25,000 mark could make Slate Auto’s truck harder to market, especially since it has only two doors and takes a bare-bones approach, with many creature comforts offered only as options to help keep costs down.
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming electric truck will be available with two battery options: a 52.7-kWh unit and an 84.3-kWh unit. The standard battery offers around 150 miles of range, while the larger pack increases that figure to up to 240 miles. Power comes from a rear-mounted electric motor producing 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
DC fast charging at up to 120 kW is also supported, allowing the truck to charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.

The Real Test Starts Soon
Slate Auto will officially reveal the price on June 24, 2026, with first deliveries expected late this year. Prospective buyers can place a reservation for $50, which will later be applied to a $300 non-refundable deposit. Its market performance is anyone’s guess, given its unusual bare-bones approach and possible mid-$20,000 price point for an EV truck.
Still, the company is at least promising electric mobility without breaking the bank. That matters when profitability remains a major challenge for affordable EVs in the U.S., while many attainable models, such as the Volkswagen ID. Polo, remain limited to overseas markets like Europe.
