Cannonball Run
The Cannonball Run is probably one of the longest-standing (albeit illegal) automotive challenges in the world. Originally crafted as a daring nonstop race from the East Coast to the West Coast, it has, over the years, ingrained itself in automotive pop culture, breeding tall tales about who did it fastest and how they did it.
Since the race is illegal, part of the journey entails that “participants” have to formulate ways to deceive or fly under the radar of law enforcement. Some of these people go to great lengths, like disguising their cars to look like police cruisers. One man on an alleged attempt was just caught.
Not Disguised Enough
CBS News Coloradoreported that two men were apprehended after the Northern Colorado Highway Patrol clocked an inconspicuous-looking black Ford sedan going twice the speed limit at 130 mph on Interstate 25.
According to testimony from highway patrol deputies, multiple units responded to the speeding car traveling more than 100 mph, yet the car was still able to pull away somewhat. After the high-speed chase, they eventually stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver and a companion.
Upon closer inspection, the officers noted that the Ford sedan was built to resemble a police cruiser and even came equipped with illegal modifications, including a signal jammer, the ability to turn off all vehicle lights, and a license plate cover. This led the authorities to believe that the car was built as a Cannonball Run car, which these officers had already encountered.

Notorious
The driver was named Gregg Barclay, and his accomplice was David Bandler. Both men are now facing charges; moreover, it’s believed that Bandler was helping Barclay evade the police. There is even evidence found in the vehicle indicating they were attempting to warn other drivers about the police presence in the immediate area.
While Gregg Barclay may not be known to most people, to followers of the car scene and the Cannonball Run, he is immediately recognizable. This is because just two years ago, Barclay came out on the popular VinWiki YouTube channel and openly admitted to modifying a Ford Taurus SHO for a Cannonball run.
