Acceleration has become something of a given in recent years. Fancy launch control systems, turbochargers, and instant torque from electric motors mean that even the most basic family cars now rival supercars in terms of get-up-and-go speed. In the 1990s, a 0–60 mph time of three seconds was incredibly hard to achieve, which is one of the reasons the McLaren F1 will go down in the history books.
