Volvo introduced the three-point safety belt – the world’s most basic and effective safety innovation – in the late ’50s. It then gave the patent away for free in the name of safety. Considering that this technology is still used to this day, it’s safe to say that the innovation saved millions or maybe even billions of lives. Now, the Swedish marque has improved seatbelts in such a way that they will automatically adjust according to what the situation dictates.
