The global shift to all-electric vehicles has slowed a bit over the past year, forcing most major automakers to rethink their near-term strategies going forward. Many companies had planned to replace their lineups with full BEVs by the middle of the next decade, but now, the longer-term solution seems to be adopting or developing new Extended-Range EVs that use an engine as a generator to charge the battery. Meanwhile, the shorter-term solution is shaping up to be plug-in hybrids, which typically have a smaller battery that can be charged while parked, or juiced up by the engine.
