There are all kinds of reasons to stay far away from a car that’s previously had a salvage title, especially a flood car. All sorts of mechanical and electrical gremlins can be lurking, even if a previous owner has gone through a lot of it. If that car is a high-end vehicle, such as a flagship luxury sedan or a supercar, those problems could increase exponentially in complexity and cost. That’s not to say there aren’t some potential benefits, though. Of course, those cars can be very cheap to start with, which makes them tempting and accessible. Furthermore, if it’s a particularly rare or desirable car, it has probably lost much of its value, so you can do things with it that previous owners probably never would have. That’s what YouTuber Mitchell Kohrmann is doing with his first-generation Audi R8, which has gone from Panama to Alaska with some weird stops in-between.
