
For several years, Tesla informed its US leasing customers that they could not purchase their vehicles at the end of the lease term. The stated reason was that these cars, primarily Model 3 sedans initially, were needed for Tesla’s “robotaxi” network. However, a recent report by Reuters suggests that many of these off-lease vehicles were instead upgraded with software and resold to new buyers for a significant profit, particularly when used car values soared.
