Given the company’s current state, it’s hard to believe that Hyundai was so far behind the eight-ball in the 1980s and 1990s. Certainly, the Korean brand was doing its best to make an impact in the marketplace back then. However, the marque became better known for turning out bargain-basement econoboxes that depreciated badly. The automaker had only an average reputation, lagging far behind its Japanese and American rivals.
