Chrysler’s Ram division is recalling nearly 292,000 ProMaster vans built between 2018 and 2026 due to a potential fire hazard linked to the cooling fan module, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall primarily affects fleet vehicles, and FCA believes every van produced during the affected period may have the defect. This recall follows a pattern of reliability concerns, as Ram vehicles’ quality has been on a steady decline in recent years.
Cooling Fan Defect Poses Fire Hazard

According to the NHTSA’s Safety Recall Report 25V720, certain Ram ProMaster models were fitted with a cooling fan module that may suffer from premature bearing wear. The issue causes the fan motor to draw excessive electrical current, and because the 400-watt fan circuit lacks adequate fuse protection, the result can be overheating and even a vehicle fire. FCA’s technical team opened an investigation in July 2025 after several fire incidents were traced to the cooling fan area. Component testing later confirmed that parts supplied by MAHLE Thermal and Fluid Systems GmbH showed signs of early bearing failure, particularly under intense fleet-use conditions.
Recall Covers All 2018–2026 ProMaster Models

While no injuries or accidents have been reported so far, Chrysler has logged 39 customer assistance and field reports tied to the defect since early 2020. Because the defect is present across all production dates between July 20, 2017, and October 7, 2025, the recall covers every 2018–2026 Ram ProMaster without exception. The NHTSA warns that affected vehicles may fail suddenly with no prior warning or dashboard alert. With the ProMaster being a staple of commercial and delivery fleets, and 291,664 vans potentially involved, the recall could have ripple effects across logistics and small-business operations nationwide. That’s not to mention the other 141,000 Ram ProMaster vans FCA’s parent company, Stellantis, recalled for rear-view camera failures just one month ago.
What Owners Should Do

FCA says a remedy is under development and has not yet confirmed how the new component will differ from the faulty fan module. Dealers will receive detailed recall instructions by October 30, 2025, with customer notifications rolling out between November 20 and November 26, 2025. Owners can check if their vehicle is included by visiting the NHTSA recall website or contacting Ram customer service once VIN data becomes searchable on October 30.
