Jaguar’s highly anticipated all-electric grand tourer, known internally as the Type 00, has been delayed until 2026, with pricing confirmed to start at $130,000. The car was originally scheduled for a late-2025 debut but has been pushed back following what the company describes as “strategic realignment” and ongoing production challenges.
The delay follows a difficult month for the brand and its parent company, Jaguar Land Rover. A major cyberattack earlier forced weeks-long factory closures across the U.K., halting production and costing the company billions. That disruption appears to have reverberated into Jaguar’s electric vehicle rollout schedule.

A Bold EV Vision
Despite the setback, Jaguar insists the Type 00 remains the brand’s statement car for its next era. The all-electric GT will ride on an entirely new architecture, delivering up to 430 miles of range and ultra-fast charging said to replenish 200 miles in just 15 minutes. It’s also expected to be Jaguar’s most powerful production model ever, outpacing even the legendary F-Type R in performance.
Development continues in full swing. As pre-production prototypes have been testing at the Nordschleife, an interesting choice for a luxury GT unlikely to see track duty from most owners. Engineers are focusing on balancing refinement, agility, and long-distance comfort, a trio of attributes meant to recapture Jaguar’s classic grand touring spirit, now powered by electrons.

Polarizing by Design
Beyond the technicals, Jaguar’s new design language has become a major talking point. Critics have called it radical and divisive, while others view it as the bold identity shift the brand needs. In a recent ABC News interview, Managing Director Rawdon Glover defended the look, saying it was “OK to be polarizing” and that Jaguar “needed to stop blending in.” His comments echo the sentiment, which argues the redesign isn’t a break from Jaguar’s DNA but a well-funded gamble to revive it for a new generation.
The car’s proportions, long hood, fastback roofline, and minimalist surfacing, are meant to evoke grace through simplicity, a deliberate departure from Jaguar’s past visual language. Whether enthusiasts see it as progress or provocation, Jaguar seems intent on forging ahead.

Jaguar
Why It Matters
For Jaguar, the Type 00 is the foundation of the company’s rebirth as an all-electric luxury brand. The $130,000 starting price places it among heavyweights like the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Tesla Model S Plaid, but Jaguar’s focus will be on craftsmanship and exclusivity rather than sheer output.
Still, the delay underscores the difficulties legacy automakers face in reinventing themselves while managing global supply chains and cyber threats. If Jaguar can deliver on its promises, blending performance, luxury, and bold design, the Type 00 could mark the beginning of one of the most significant turnarounds in modern automotive history.
For now, fans will have to wait until 2026 to see whether Jaguar’s efforts will prove visionary or too daring for its own good.
