Famed British tractor builder and inventor Harry Ferguson had a thing for four-wheel-drive vehicles. As the Ferguson part of the massive Massey Ferguson agricultural business, Harry loved motorsport as much as he loved his tractors. The company had been building four-wheel tractors for years at the time, and Ferguson was keen to demonstrate the advantages of 4WD traction in a motorsport environment, with a longer-term eye on using the system on production cars.
