Examining engine technologies from differing eras is never a fair comparison. New engineering developments can quickly change the playing field; that’s why a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine now makes as much as an 8.0-liter V10 Dodge Viper did back in the 1990s. Honda’s game-changing NSX was also launched in the 1990s – 1991 to be exact – and it ushered in a new age of tractable and reliable sports cars.
