The BMW 3-Series is preparing for its Neue Klasse transformation, a move that will bring it in step with the next-generation i3 sedan. Before that new chapter opens, though, BMW Canada is marking the occasion with the 50 Jahre Edition, a limited version of the M340i xDrive created to celebrate five decades of the 3-Series nameplate.
This special edition pays tribute to the model’s 50-year legacy through a curated color palette of six finishes, each drawn from a different generation of the 3-Series. Aside from these paint choices, BMW has kept the rest of the package largely untouched.
The palette includes Madeira Red Metallic, Laguna Green Metallic, Avus Blue Metallic, Carbon Black Metallic, Deep Green Metallic, and Citrin Black Metallic. All are sourced from BMW’s Individual catalog, spanning the lineage from the original E21 to today’s G20.

The 50 Jahre Edition arrives fully equipped with the M bodykit and a set of 20-inch forged alloy wheels featuring a Y-spoke design. Unique “50 Jahre Edition” badging adorns the tailgate, while the M Performance exhaust gives a deeper note to the turbocharged straight-six engine.

The cabin is trimmed in Merino leather from the BMW Individual collection, offered in either black or white. A brushed metal plaque reading “3-Series 50 Jahre Edition” sits on the cupholder cover, mirrored by matching door-sill plates.
Predictably, there are no changes under the hood – and truthfully, the M340i doesn’t need it. The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six continues to produce 386 horsepower (288 kW / 391 PS) and 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) of torque. Power is routed to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s rear-biased xDrive system.

Performance remains identical to the standard M340i xDrive, with a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 4.3 seconds. That keeps it the quickest 3-Series short of the full M3.
Production of the BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition begins in Germany this month, with only 100 units slated for the Canadian market.
