When you first lay eyes upon the Volvo 850R, you wouldn’t exactly think it’s fast by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, you might even find yourself thinking about how Volvo must have deliberately designed the thing to offend anyone who thinks fast cars should look the part. It’s boxy, plain, and Swedish through and through, but it packs enough oomph under its hood to embarrass some of the performance icons of its day.
