Mitsubishi has announced the pricing for its latest electric vehicle, the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV, as it prepares to put another entry on the table in the compact EV space. At a starting point of $39,740 (destination included), the new crossover is set to be a contender in an ever more crowded segment.

While you can trace some of the Eclipse Sportback’s lineage to the current Nissan Leaf, it wears a distinctly Mitsubishi look and harks back to a name from the brand’s history. What will matter most to potential buyers is the range; Mitsubishi is touting up to 282 miles from a full charge.
The offering is not complicated when it comes to options. For launch there is only one package to consider: the Technology Package at $2,600. It is a worthwhile add-on for those wanting a panoramic glass roof with electrochromic dimming, a power liftgate and a 10-speaker Bose system.
Mechanically, the 2027 model is no overcomplicated affair. A front-mounted electric motor puts out 214 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. Do not expect an all-wheel-drive variant at first, but Mitsubishi has equipped the Sportback with a standard NACS charging port. That means owners can use Tesla Superchargers without an adapter, a handy feature for road trips.
On a 150-kW DC fast charger, the Eclipse Sportback will go from 10 to 80 percent in about 35 minutes. It may not be the fastest in its class, but with the NACS and close to 300 miles of range, longer excursions are made simple.
In many ways the Eclipse Sportback is more than just another EV for Mitsubishi. The company calls it the first of the all-new models under its Momentum 2030 plan, a strategy that will see a number of new vehicles come to market in the years ahead. We have already been told to expect a new pickup and a focus on off-road capable, adventure type vehicles.
But for the moment, the Eclipse Sportback fills a void with an affordable, long-range crossover for the mainstream buyer. Given the $39,740 price tag, the 282-mile range and the ability to plug into the Tesla network, it could well be the most noteworthy U.S. model from Mitsubishi in some time.
