It was easy to predict a significant drop in third-quarter sales for the Cadillac brand this year. One year ago, a $7,500 federal tax credit for battery-electric vehicles disappeared, ending a flurry of sales to consumers who wanted to save money on a zero-emission vehicle. Ever since then, it’s been an uphill climb for brands that bet big on EVs. The situation has not been good for the bottom line for several automakers, including General Motors.
