2025 to 2027 Cadillac Optic
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a recall notice for the Cadillac Optic, model years 2025, 2026, and 2027. The report states that 29,347 cars are affected by this defect and that 100% of all units have this issue.
On June 26, 2026, GM detected this issue through a dealer who noticed that the power windows on the Cadillac Optic wouldn’t properly stop when they encountered an object while the express-up feature was activated using the vehicle’s key fob. In accordance with FMVSS No. 118, S5, GM tested five vehicles with the closure hardware, and four of them failed to consistently meet the stop-reverse requirements when the express-up feature was activated using the key fob.

Pinch Protection’s Not Working
It may seem like a dismissible recall, but FMVSS No. 118, S5 protects users from power windows that won’t back off if an object is in the way. That object could be a real object, a limb, or even a child sticking their head out of the window.
According to the NHTSA recall report: “If a power window fails to stop and reverse while operating the express-up feature from the key fob, there is an increased risk of injury to a person in its path.” GM’s power window supplier reportedly set the upper travel range of the pinch protection below the FMVSS No. 118 standard.
The issue is software-related, similar to the Hyundai Palisade’s fatal rear power seat issue, where the seats would fold regardless of whether an object or person was in the way.

Software Update
With this, all owners of 2025 to 2027 model year Cadillac Optiqs will receive a software update, either through a dealer or via an over-the-air update. According to the report, GM will “update the front side door window software calibrations in the body control module (BCM). Over-the-air updates are available for vehicles that support them, but owners without over-the-air enabled can visit their dealers to have the update loaded.
In addition, GM has already identified the issue on its production line. The necessary calibrations have been made to the Optiq’s production line at GM’s assembly plant on September 22, 2026.
As of this writing, dealers are aware of this issue, and recall VINs are searchable as of September 24, 2026. By November 9, 2026, dealers will directly notify owners to begin the recall process.
