The sixth-generation Jeep Cherokee is living on borrowed time, but that doesn’t mean they’re throwing in the towel. Quite the opposite as there’s a new teaser video for the upcoming Trailhawk variant.
Originally announced in June, the off-road focused trim is Trail Rated and has been subjected to the “harshest testing” to ensure its capability. This can be seen in the short teaser video, which shows the crossover tackling sand dunes and going rock climbing. There’s real off-road chops on display and the model even catches some air.

While the camouflaged prototype doesn’t reveal much, a previous teaser image suggested the model will be distinguished by a grey front fascia as well as a unique front bumper. The latter incorporates red tow hooks, body color accents, and a more macho design. We can also expect it to provide a better approach angle.
Motivation will likely be provided by a hybrid system that consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, a continuously variable transmission, and a 1.08 kWh battery pack. This gives the regular model a combined output of 210 hp (157 kW / 213 PS) and 230 lb-ft (312 Nm) of torque as well as a fuel economy rating of 39 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined.
While the powertrain will likely carryover, we can expect it to be paired to a more capable four-wheel drive system with a Low range. We can also look forward to underbody protection as well as all-terrain tires.
