Nissan Made A New Electric SUV Cheaper Than Its Cheap One

Dongfeng Nissan has unveiled the NX7, a model that will grow the automaker’ new energy vehicle lineup in China. The electrified SUV will slot in below the larger NX8, borrowing a lightly reworked design language along with the brand’s newest tech.

The Nissan NX7 retains the sleek curves of the NX8 but some of its features have been evolved. The centerpiece is a fresh take on split LED headlights, positioned on either side of a grille-less nose that carries an illuminated Nissan badge. Up top, the daytime running lights drop the full-width LED bar seen on earlier models, and the lower clusters wear a plainer shape.

Other highlights includes a sculpted hood, semi-enclosed door handles, and the lack of plastic cladding around the wheel arches. The rear end loos familiar with slim full-width LED taillights but the NX7 has a distinct C-pillar with dark trim connecting the rear quarter windows with the rear glass.

A roof-mounted LiDAR unit and additional sensors point to a fairly sophisticated ADAS setup. On size, the NX7 likely lands somewhere between the 183-inch (4,648 mm) Rogue / X-Trail and the 191.7-inch (4,870 mm) NX8.

Dongfeng Nissan didn’t get into specifics, but the NX7 will likely ride on its local Tianyan NEV architecture which already underpins the N6 and N7 sedans and the NX8 SUV. The latter is available with electric and range-extender powertrains with a FWD layout and CATL-sourced lithium-iron phosphate batteries.

Pricing stays under wraps, though it will land below the NX8 and its ¥149,900 ($22,200) starting figure. The automaker also hasn’t confirmed whether the NX7 stays exclusive to China or eventually follows other locally built models abroad.
