The First to Arrive in America
Not many new performance cars have stirred up as much controversy this year as Mercedes-AMG’s all-electric GT 4-Door Coupe. Park it next to the much-mocked but wildly popular Ferrari Luce, and you’ve got a real battle of the oddballs. The AMG’s wild proportions, glowing grille, and six-pack of round taillights have split opinions right down the middle.
Now, Mercedes-AMG has finally shown off the first version that’s actually coming to America: the GT 53 4-Door Coupe. Yes, it’s electric. No, it’s not the top dog just yet.
The GT 53 is your ticket into AMG’s next-gen electric performance club. It ditches the triple-motor madness of the upcoming GT 63 for a simpler dual-motor setup, but still cranks out 536 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes says it’ll hit 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, so don’t call it slow.
Despite being an EV, AMG cooked up a fake soundtrack that mimics its old turbo inline-six, complete with pretend gear shifts you can trigger with the paddles – just like a Hyundai.

Futuristic Styling Meets a Familiar AMG Cabin
The shape is all-new, but Mercedes hasn’t forgotten its AMG roots. The GT 53 rocks a long fastback silhouette, flush door handles, a hunkered-down stance, and a standard active rear spoiler. Want more? You can add an active rear diffuser that tweaks itself for better efficiency or grip, depending on how you’re driving. Even with a hefty battery under the floor, the new body sits about 1.6 inches lower than before.
Inside, you’ll find a blend of high-tech and old-school AMG. There’s a 14-inch touchscreen angled at the driver, and if your passenger gets jealous, you can add a screen for them too. The center console still has real rotary knobs, plus wireless charging, glowing cupholders, and AMG-only trim. The steering wheel packs AMG DRIVE UNIT controls for quick tweaks, and a new Response Control dial lets you fine-tune throttle response no matter what drive mode you’re in.
You get six AMG Dynamic Select modes, from Eco and Comfort all the way up to Sport and AMGFORCE Sport+. That last one cranks up the fake six-cylinder soundtrack and throws in virtual gear shifts for a bit more drama.

Big Range, Bigger Charging Speeds
Power comes from a pair of permanently excited motors and a 106-kWh battery running on an 800-volt setup.
The battery packs directly cooled cylindrical cells borrowed from Mercedes-AMG’s Formula One know-how, so you get steady performance even if you keep your foot down. There’s also a two-speed transmission for punchy launches in first gear and better efficiency when you’re cruising.
Plug into an 800-volt charger, and the GT 53 can gulp down up to 600 kW, adding about 534 km (332 miles) of range in just 10 minutes. A 10-80% top-up takes around 11 minutes. If you’re gentle, Mercedes says you can squeeze out up to 809 km (503 miles) on a charge, depending on the spec.
Mercedes-AMG says the GT 53 4-Door Coupe will hit US dealerships in early 2027, making it the first of the new electric GTs to land stateside. No word on pricing yet, but it’ll slot in below the GT 63.
