By the time the 1990s rolled around, Japan’s influence on the American automotive market had reached nearly its full capacity, especially within the realm of sports cars. At this point, icons such as the Toyota Supra, Honda Prelude, and the Nissan Z models had effectively made their way into the collective soul of American motoring. Because of this, many domestically produced sports cars, save for the Chevrolet Corvette, for example, had taken a proverbial backseat.
