There’s a common misconception in America that pickup trucks are some of the safest vehicles on the road thanks to their size and weight. And while yes, physics is absolutely on the side of the larger vehicle in a vehicle-to-vehicle collision, that doesn’t negate the need for good safety restraints inside to limit occupant injuries, and it also doesn’t help when trucks strike stationary, solid objects. After focusing for years on front occupant protection, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has started to put a magnifying glass on rear passenger safety, especially safety for children and smaller adults.
