Porschetoday is considered a mass-market automotive juggernaut, yet it remains an aspirational brand for most. Each model that comes out of their factory comes with the certainty of the ‘Porsche Magic’ we have all come to know and revere. Some spend their lives saving for it, and some actually achieve it – like this elderly couple who just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
A Porsche Dream Come True
Everybody loves a feel-good story, especially one that involves cars. Making the news cycle is an elderly couple from Great Britain who just celebrated seventy years together. Instead of the usual way to mark the occasion with flowers or a romantic date, they chose to go big and purchase their first-ever Porsche.
Derek and Audrey Evans are both well into their 90s, yet their adventurous streak lives on, which is why they chose a Porsche Macan. Derek was quick to point out that while they aren’t (or never were) “boy racers,” he and his dear wife enjoy the feeling of power and comfort. Adding to the reason behind their Porsche purchase, Derek says, “I’ve always thought Porsche was unique – so reliable, and unlike anything else.”
He went on to say that they’ve always wanted one as a couple and thought, “Why not buy one now?” Their desire was also underscored by their belief that owning a Porsche is like being part of an ‘amazing’ club. Pushing them into the purchase was also the fact that they recently borrowed a 911 from the local dealer. As the couple enjoys the Macan, they already have an eye on the future, agreeing that the next Porsche they want is the Taycan.
Intertwined by History
An interesting fact about the Evanses is that the couple started their lives together in the 1950s, owning an Austin 7 as their first car. This coincides with Porsche Cars Great Britain setting up shop in the UK not long ago and, in fact, also celebrating a milestone like the Evanses: 75 years in the UK.
The Evanses’ purchase of their first Porsche is proof that dreams, no matter how big, are achievable, no matter what. All it takes is the willpower and determination to make them come true. Here’s to more years for the Evans couple. We should all be so lucky to be like them someday.
