If you’re a firm believer in “they don’t make them like they used to,” this one’s going to make you smile. A remarkably preserved 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 is heading to auction, and it’s barely been used. With just 787 miles (1,267 km) on the odometer in nearly three decades, it’s essentially a brand-new, old truck.
Set to go under the hammer on December 5, the extended cab pickup looks virtually flawless as it features a white exterior that has managed to avoid the wrath of time.
There’s no word on why it was rarely driven, but the model features a chrome grille guard, side steps, and bright mirrors. It also looks like the bed was never used as the sides appear scratch free, while a mat protected the bottom.

Details in the listing are sparse, but the cabin reveals the truck’s preserved condition. The gray front bench seat remains in excellent form, joined by an old-school audio system complete with a cassette player.

We can also see a power driver’s seat, power windows and locks as well as steering wheel-mounted controls. They’re joined by carpeting as this is a higher-end SLT variant.
Power comes from a 5.9-liter Magnum V8 that produces 235 hp (175 kW / 238 PS) and 330 lb-ft (447 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a four-speed automatic transmission, which is paired with a four-wheel drive system.
The truck is being auctioned by Mecum and it reportedly comes with the original window sticker as well as a brand-new battery.
There’s no reserve, but it will undoubtedly sell for a lot more than the Kelly Blue Book suggested price of $5,000 to $7,000.
