- An Audi RS3 prototype was spotted at the Nurburgring with more aggressive aero.
- A limited edition RS3 GT could serve as the swan song of the German hyper hatch.
- It could feature the final evolution of the five-cylinder engine without electrification.
The hot hatch world has always thrived on big rivalries, and while the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A45 remain the main contenders in hyper hatch territory, more accessible options like the VW Golf R are steadily closing the gap. To keep its edge, Audi seems to be preparing a more extreme RS3 variant, one that could wear the GT badge and arrive in limited numbers.

Our spy photographers caught a lightly camouflaged RS3 Sportback prototype doing hot laps at the Nurburgring. The model could be easily mistaken for a regular RS3, but a closer inspection reveals a few interesting aero upgrades.
Sharper Exterior Details
The already aggressive body kit of the RS3 has been dressed with sharp canards on the front bumper, a slightly redesigned splitter, and a larger rear wing. The latter appears to be made of carbon fiber, matching the front blades and the diffuser.
The prototype rides on the multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels introduced by the facelifted RS3 in 2024, but the brake calipers are finished in blue. Normally, the calipers are black or red in the regular RS3, and anthracite glossy if you get the optional ceramic brakes.

Chassis and Engine Potential
The upgraded aero package is likely to be paired with a revised chassis setup aimed at sharpening the car’s dual personality for both road and track use. Engineers at Audi Sport could be reworking the adaptive suspension and electronic systems to bring out an even wilder side of the RS3.
As for the powertrain, expect more power from the iconic turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. Sebastian Grams, Managing Director of Audi Sport, has previously hinted at a more powerful version, adding that it can be done without the help of electrification.

This means that the GT will produce more than the 395 hp (294 kW / 400 PS) of the regular RS3 and the 401 hp (299 kW / 407 PS) of the RS3 Performance. We guess that Audi will try to surpass the 416 hp (310 kW / 421 PS) of the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder found under the hood of the rival A45 AMG, creating the world’s most powerful ICE-powered hyper hatch.
The Last of its Kind?
Reports indicate the hyper hatch could mark the final chapter for Audi’s five-cylinder engine in Europe, where stricter emissions rules are making its future uncertain. For now, the RS3 Sportback and RS3 Sedan are the only models still carrying the five-pot, since the TT RS and RS Q3 have already bowed out.
The hardcore Audi RS3 GT, if that’s the name it ultimately carries, is expected to debut in 2026 as a limited-production special. It would likely become the most expensive member of the A3 family and stand as the ultimate hatchback of the combustion era.
