Bugatti unveiled the Veyron at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show and, just a few months later, stunned the world by reaching a top speed of 253.8 mph, claiming the land speed record for a production car in the process. At the time, it seemed safe to assume that no one would surpass that speed, at least for many years.
