It’s been 70 years since the first customized Porsche was officially commissioned. In 1955, Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach requested that a rear windshield wiper be mounted to his 356 A Coupe, and… yeah, that was pretty much it. A similar request from the German industrialist seven years later though proved significantly harder, as Porsche’s repair department, now set to work on Halbach’s 1962 356B Carrera 2, found that they couldn’t fit the rear wiper spindle without drilling a small hole above the engine cover, and, in doing so, cracking the rear windscreen. Several attempts later by a troop of brow-mopping mechanics, the customization was complete, and Porsche’s ‘Sonderwunsch’ program was born.
