Throughout automotive history – and all history in general, mind you – things that end up actually making history aren’t known until after the fact. For example, scientist Enrico Fermi was responsible for one of the first documented cases of splitting an atom in 1934. At the time, he wasn’t even trying to do so, yet ended up making history, with several subsequent scientific breakthroughs in nuclear physics credited to his accident.
