Car manufacturers don’t go racing for the fun of it. They’re pushing their brand, certainly, but they’re inevitably testing components and stretching ideas to help them bring better and bolder products to the marketplace. In some categories of racing and in rallying, OEMs use vehicles that bear a very close resemblance to their commercially available siblings, where the connection between racetrack and highway is even closer still. With this in mind, BMW is set to debut a very interesting M2 race car that could define the marketing direction for this model in the future, and as it represents a big departure from the road-going and current M2, it’s worth a closer look.
