- IAAI is auctioning a very unique Mercedes GLS with a salvage title from insurance.
- A scorned lover likely defaced the luxury SUV after discovering an alleged affair.
- The next owner might end up with a decent ride if they’re willing to do a little work.
Sometimes the used car market throws up a listing so strange, you can’t help but wonder what kind of story comes with it. That’s certainly the case here, where a luxury SUV’s past is written in broken glass and spray paint.
Modern automotive enthusiasm takes many forms. We’ve seen some folks go as far as to fake vandalism on their own cars to gain notoriety. While this sort of looks like one of those stunts, it’s clear the damage on this Mercedes is the real. How do we know? It’s up for auction with a salvage title specifically marked for vandalism.

This 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS is a luxury SUV with 47,501 miles on the odometer, but based on the vandalism, it’s seen some rough miles. Someone seems to have spray-painted “I know U with her,” on both sides of the vehicle. They didn’t stop there, though. They also broke out several windows, including the back glass. Some of the paint ended up on the rear driver’s side tail light, too, so it could also be subject to replacement.
That said, all of that damage led the insurance company to total the Mercedes and brand the title as a salvage vehicle. Now, it’s up for auction over at IAAI with an estimated ‘actual cash value’ of $51,750. Of course, the auction house also lists that same figure for the ‘estimated repair cost’. Could be a clerical error, could be wishful thinking. Either way, it doesn’t exactly clarify the situation.
Hilariously, IAAI took full advantage of this very odd situation by throwing a little shade toward the previous owner. “Aaannnd, now we all know,” it said in an Instagram post about the car. “Should be an easy flip, but you might want to take this one out of state,” it concluded. That insight seems wise on both ends.
From what we can tell, it appears as though this Mercedes doesn’t need too much. A new set of windows and a paint job might be it. Sure, none of that will come super cheap, but it’s not as if this luxury SUV needs a bunch of mechanical work. As cars worthy of a flip go, not having to replace airbags, body panels, or engine parts, makes this one a good one.
Would you take a chance on this GLS? And if so, would you actually drive it around or just clean it up and sell it to someone in another ZIP code? Either way, you’ll probably want to park it somewhere secure.
