Off-road trucks are big business and Ram is looking to expand their reach with the new 1500 BackCountry. It’s a rugged, mid-level pickup that slots between the existing Rebel and Warlock.
Based on the Big Horn 4×4 Crew Cab, the BackCountry lives up to its name as it features a 1-inch lift, underbody skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential. They’re joined by heavy‑duty shocks, front tow hooks, and Satin Black 18-inch wheels wrapped in 32-inch off-road tires. The model also has a Selec‑Speed off‑road cruise control system, which enables drivers to focus on obstacles and terrain.

Besides the off-road goodies, the truck has additional body‑color accents and a matching grille surround. They’re contrasted by black fender flares as well as bumpers and a lower body wearing Diamond Black Crystal Pearl-Coat paint. The dark theme continues elsewhere thanks to Satin Black badging and lighting bezels.
Interior changes are more modest, but the truck is notable for having black vinyl seats with “alloy printed mesh inserts.” They’re joined by a MOLLE panel storage system on the backrests.

Other highlights include all‑weather floor mats and BackCountry badging on the passenger-side dashboard. We can also see stylish silver or white contrast stitching.
The BackCountry package costs $2,995 and is available on 1500 Big Horns equipped with either the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group as well as a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 or twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. The former produces 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 410 lb-ft (555 Nm) of torque, while the latter develops 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm).
Ram is currently accepting orders and pricing starts at $62,410 including destination. That’s a little pricey, but the model also comes equipped with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and an 8.4-inch infotainment system. We can also expect to find adaptive cruise control, a power sliding rear window, and a universal garage door opener.
