- The North American models don’t appear to have steer-by-wire like European cars.
- Powering the base RZ is a 221 hp while the flagship version delivers 402 hp.
- All new 2026 Lexus RZ models include an NACS plug as standard.
Two months ago, Lexus unveiled the 2026 RZ in European-spec, complete with steer-by-wire and simulated gears. Now, the updated RZ has been announced for the North American market, complete with a new and improved battery, more power, and more driving range. However, Lexus is not yet ready to announce US pricing for its updated EV.
Three versions of the 2026 RZ will be available in the US. Sitting at the base of the range is the new RZ 350e, fitted with a 74.69 kWh battery pack and an electric motor at the front with 221 hp. Lexus says this version can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.2 seconds and is good for approximately 300 miles (482 km) on a charge.

Sitting above this model is the RZ 450e AWD. It has the same 74.69 battery, but the addition of an electric motor at the front wheels lifts combined grunt up to 308 hp, slashing the 0-60 mph time to 4.9 seconds. This model has a claimed range of 260 miles (418 km). Last but not least is the RZ 550e F Sport AWD. It benefits from a slightly larger 76.96 kWh battery, 402 hp, and hits 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. It has an estimated driving range of 225 miles (362 km), which, by current EV standards, is pretty pathetic.
All new 2026 RZ models delivered in North America include an NACS plug, and the battery pack can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. All models also come standard with an 11 kW on-board AC charger, as opposed to the 7 kW unit of the outgoing model.
Curiously, it does not appear as though new RZ models to be sold in North America will have the same steer-by-wire as those sold internationally, including in Europe. Lexus has made no mention of the system in its local press release, and images released of the locally-specced model show it with a normal steering wheel, rather than the yoke that accompanies the steer-by-wire setup.
What we do know is that the RZ 550e F Sport AWD is the sole version offered with Toyota’s virtual gear shift function. Known as M Mode, it is operated with the paddle shifters and apparently delivers “a sportier, more responsive driving feel.”
Several upgrades have also been made to the cabin. For example, the 2026 RZ is offered with a panoramic glass roof that can switch from clear to opaque, and on the RZ 550e, black Ultrasuede trim with blue contrast stitching.
